East Side Michigan fishing with X Zone Lures Pro Staff, Brad Ballew

With a passion for fishing at an early age, Brad Ballew has joined us at X Zone Lures becoming one of our Pro Staff and we recently got to ask him a few questions about his fishing addiction.

Q: When did you start fishing and who taught you how to fish?

A: I grew up on Lake St. Clair and started fishing at the end of the street at an early age and caught both bass and musky off the pier, with older guys.

At the age of 12 there was a lady down the street that owned Lakeside Fishing Shop, a place to go for all your stuff, and I started working there and then got into salmon fishing.   I got an aluminum boat and some float tubes with my discount for product at the shop.  I would also go out in the winter and ice fish with my friends.

Q: How did you get into tournament fishing?

A: I got into tournament fishing with my best friend since kindergarten and fishing partner - Dan Holbrook.  We both have boats - Bass Tracker and Polar Craft. We just decided this year to get into tournament fishing as we have both fished religiously our whole lives.  We always talked about it but we never did until this year.

Q: Do you have any big plans for this season and 2017?

A:  I am a single dad and my son Keegan is my fishing partner for some of the tournaments that we fish together.  I plan on finishing this season with the Cash for Bass Tour, a local tournament of inland lakes, Lake Sinclair Division.  For 2017, I will be competing in the FLW - BFL Series Costa Division.

Q: Do you have any advice for those thinking about getting into fishing?

A: It's never too late to try and become a pro angler.
